Nitish Rana is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was born on December 27, 1993, in Delhi, India. Rana is a left-handed batsman and also bowls right-arm off-break.
Early Career:
Nitish Rana started playing cricket at a young age and began his professional career with the Delhi cricket team. He made his List A debut for Delhi in 2012 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and a year later, he made his first-class debut for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. In his debut season, Rana scored an impressive 557 runs, including two centuries and three half-centuries, at an average of 50.63.
IPL Career:
Nitish Rana made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2015. However, he did not get much of a chance to showcase his talent, as he played in only two matches in the entire season. In 2016, he moved to Kolkata Knight Riders and had a breakthrough season with them. Rana played in 13 matches and scored 312 runs at an average of 34.66, with one century and two half-centuries. His performances helped KKR reach the playoffs, but they lost to eventual champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator.
In 2017, Nitish Rana had another good season with KKR. He scored 333 runs in 13 matches at an average of 30.27, with three half-centuries. He also took a wicket with his off-break bowling. In 2018, he scored 304 runs in 15 matches at an average of 23.38, with two half-centuries. In the 2019 season, Rana scored 344 runs in 14 matches at an average of 34.40, with three half-centuries.
Rana had a difficult 2020 season, scoring only 352 runs in 14 matches at an average of 25.14. However, he came back strongly in the 2021 season, scoring 286 runs in 10 matches at an average of 31.77, with three half-centuries. His performances were instrumental in KKR reaching the playoffs, although they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifier.
Personal Life:
Nitish Rana was born and brought up in Delhi, India. His father, Rameshwar Rana, was a former wrestler, and his mother, Sushila Devi, is a homemaker. Rana has two elder sisters, Sushmita Rana and Neha Rana.
Rana got married to his long-time girlfriend Saachi Marwah in February 2021. The couple had been dating for several years before tying the knot.
Playing Style:
Nitish Rana is a left-handed batsman who is known for his aggressive strokeplay. He is comfortable playing both pace and spin and has a good technique to counter both. Rana is also a handy off-break bowler and can provide some crucial breakthroughs for his team. He is an excellent fielder and has taken some spectacular catches in the IPL.
Achievements:
Nitish Rana has had a successful IPL career so far, with over 2000 runs in 83 matches at an average of 27.02, including seven half-centuries and one century. He has also taken six wickets with his off-break bowling.
In the 2018-19 season of the Ranji Trophy, Rana scored 524 runs in eight matches at an average of 58.22, with two centuries and three half-centuries. His performances helped Delhi reach the final, where they lost to Vidarb.
