Ratan Tata is a renowned Indian
industrialist, philanthropist, and former chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, India, Ratan Naval Tata is the son of Naval Tata and Sooni Tata. He is one of the most respected business leaders in India, having transformed the Tata Group into a global conglomerate with over 100 companies in various industries.Education and Early Career
Ratan Tata's early education was at the Campion School in Mumbai. He then went to the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai, where he completed his secondary education. Ratan Tata completed his bachelor's degree in architecture from Cornell University in 1962. He then went on to complete his advanced management program from Harvard Business School in 1975.
Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962, working initially on the shop floor at Tata Steel. He then moved on to work in various companies within the Tata Group, including Tata Motors, Tata Industries, Tata Chemicals, and Tata Tea.
Leadership at Tata Group
In 1991, Ratan Tata became the chairman of Tata Sons, succeeding J.R.D. Tata. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded its business interests both in India and globally. Ratan Tata was instrumental in transforming the Tata Group from a largely India-centric conglomerate to a global player with operations in various industries, including steel, automobiles, chemicals, hospitality, and information technology.
Ratan Tata also made some key acquisitions during his tenure, including the purchase of British automaker Jaguar Land Rover, which was struggling at the time but has since become a major contributor to the Tata Group's revenue. He also oversaw the launch of the Nano, the world's cheapest car, which was designed to be affordable for the masses.

Retirement and Legacy
Ratan Tata retired as the chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, at the age of 75. He was succeeded by Cyrus Mistry, but Mistry was later ousted from the position in 2016, and Ratan Tata was brought back as interim chairman. He served in this position until Natarajan Chandrasekaran was appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons in 2017.
