Karn Sharma
Karn Sharma is a professional Indian cricketer who primarily plays as a leg-spinner. Born on 23 October 1987 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Karn has represented various domestic teams and played in several editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Domestic Career:
Karn Sharma began his domestic cricket career in 2007 when he made his first-class debut for Railways in the Ranji Trophy. He quickly made an impact with his leg-spin and was soon picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2013 edition of the IPL. He had a decent season, picking up 11 wickets in 13 matches.
In the next season, Karn Sharma moved to the Mumbai Indians and played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign. He picked up 15 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 23.26 and an economy rate of 6.60. His performances in the IPL earned him a call-up to the Indian national team for the tour of England in 2014.
However, Karn Sharma's international career did not take off as expected. He played only two ODIs and one T20I for India and failed to make a significant impact. Karn then shifted his focus back to domestic cricket and continued to perform well for his teams.
In the 2017-18 season of the Ranji Trophy, Karn Sharma was the leading wicket-taker for Vidarbha, helping them win their maiden title. He picked up 23 wickets in six matches at an average of 20.47. In the same season, he also played a crucial role in helping Chennai Super Kings (CSK) win their third IPL title.
In the 2020-21 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Karn Sharma was once again in fine form, picking up 10 wickets in five matches at an average of 13.20 and an economy rate of 5.70.
IPL Career:
Karn Sharma has been a regular feature in the IPL since 2013. He has played for various franchises over the years, including Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals.
In his IPL career, Karn Sharma has played 107 matches and picked up 92 wickets at an average of 28.72 and an economy rate of 7.68. He has also been a handy batsman lower down the order, scoring 317 runs at a strike rate of 123.26.
Karn Sharma's best IPL season came in 2014 when he played for Mumbai Indians. He picked up 15 wickets in 13 matches and played a crucial role in helping the team win their second IPL title. In the same year, he was also awarded the "Emerging Player of the Year" award for his performances.
Karn Sharma has also been a part of several other successful campaigns in the IPL. He was a key member of the Chennai Super Kings team that won the IPL title in 2018 and the Delhi Capitals team that reached the final of the IPL in 2020. In the 2021 edition of the IPL, he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore but had a relatively quiet season, picking up only four wickets in six matches.
Conclusion:
Karn Sharma may not have had a prolific international career, but he has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in domestic cricket and the IPL. His accurate leg-spin and ability to contain the opposition have made him a valuable asset for any team he has played for. With age on his side, Karn Sharma will be looking to continue his good form and add more accolades to his already impressive career.
